Funding & Investment

1. Funding

Although CLAIR cannot provide funding for activities directly, there are a number of organisations that award grants to help maintain and develop links with Japan.

The Japan Foundation offers funding through a mixture of Annual Grant Programmes and Local Project Support for the purposes of promoting cultural relations between Japan and other nations. As well as receiving applications for programmes administered by its Tokyo Head Office in the areas of Arts and Culture, Japanese Language Study, and Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange, the London office also has a small budget for assistance towards activities and projects that help to promote a greater awareness of Japan, its arts, language and culture in the UK.

Japan Society – can provide grants to enable small scale projects and events related to Japan to take place in the UK. The Society also provides practical support and advice to schools in the primary and secondary sectors including workshops and resources for teachers, visits to schools and assistance with making links with Japan.

2. Investment

Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the United Kingdom – promotes economic relations and trade between Japan and the UK and the interests of Japanese business in the UK. It is a membership organisation providing services for its member companies, which are mainly Japanese companies in the UK. It assists Japanese companies setting up in the UK. It does not provide regular funding for the activities of other organisations.

Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) – provides support to those who are looking to develop UK-Japan business links in the fields of trade and investment.
